One of my favorite American pastors, John MacArthur and Pastor Doug Pagitt debate yoga and Christianity
I love John MacArthur. However, I have to disagree with him on one point. You can use the exercise of yoga to help overall bodily health. However, I agree with him that we must reject the pantheism associated with it. If one adheres to yoga for its spiritual qualities, they are dabbling in the doctrines of the demonic.
What do you think?

I think you need to meditate and stopTALKING so much about religion and get out there and make a difference…this is so narcissistic….
??????demonic??????………………..

I am out here. I am presently at this hour in The Methodist Hospital on call as a chaplain, taking a break from making visits to patients who are about to have a lung transplant, heart transplant, who have had a heart attack, families who have had a loved ones die, etc.
Before you speak you should inquire.
Yes demonic.
Galatians 1:8 – But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.
1 Corinthians 10:20-21 – No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
1 Timothy 4:1 – Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons…
Revelation 9:20 – The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk…
Narcissism:
Main Entry: nar·cis·sism
Pronunciation: ‘när-s&-”si-z&m
Function: noun
Etymology: German Narzissismus, from Narziss Narcissus, from Latin Narcissus
1 : EGOISM, EGOCENTRISM
2 : love of or sexual desire for one’s own body
I don’t think I have love or sexual desire for myself. Yeah. I don’t.
However, I am guilty of egocentrism as all of us are.
I repent and ask for forgiveness for my pride O Lord. Please cleanse me from my iniquity and make in me a clean heart solely devoted to Yur Word and Your teachings. I appreciate Father Your Truth that Jesus alone is the way to You. I am grateful for your love and riches you have given us in Christ Jesus. May glory and praise and power be to you forever and ever. Amen.
This blog, however, is devoted to the edification of God’s people. It is about Him who bought us by His blood. It is not about me, but spreading the word about Him.

By the way, I do meditate: On The Bread of Life…
The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked
1:1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and
on his law he MEDITATES day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

However, your one disagreement with John MacArthur was something he clearly addressed in the debate: if you’re using the “exercise of yoga” to help your overall bodily health, why call it “yoga”? Why not just call it “stretching”?
Once you apply the name “yoga” to these exercises, it ceases to become just exercise–it is now related to religion (check any dictionary if you don’t believe me).

I love John MacArthur, all of his Biblical teachings, his ministry, and his stance on the truth war and the emerging church so much that I am willing to dodge as many bullets as I can dodge for him.

I love him too. May he continue to persevere in the Word and preach the Gospel. Keep backing him as long as he does this, and you will be on the right track!
